What is SEO and how does it work?

There are so many reasons why SEO (search engine optimisation) is important for your business. Not only will it help build more awareness of your brand and what you have to offer, it will build trust between you and your potential clients and help position you as a thought leader within your industry.

The main goal of SEO is to get more organic traffic to your website and this is done through implementing a series of processes including generating high-quality, linkable content that perfectly matches the search intent of your future customers alongside the best possible user experience.

These processes are called ‘algorithms’ and they take into account a huge number of ‘ranking factors’ - most of which are kept under lock and key, however our SEO experts will implement the most well known techniques to help your site climb up through the rankings and be seen by as many people as possible.

Secure payments through your Ecommerce store

There are billions of searches carried out on Google (and other search engines) every single day and the higher you rank on the search engine results pages (SERPS) the more people will visit your site.

Websites that sit in the top 3 positions of page 1, receive 50% of all clicks - just think of how you search for things, how often do you scroll to the bottom of page one, let alone onto page 2 or beyond?!

The main focus for your website should be offering content that is relevant to your industry and that matches what people are actually searching for. This means your content will fall into one of 4 categories; informational, transactional, commercial or navigational.

Your content should be guided by the actual terms that people are actively searching for; called ‘search queries’.

Is SEO right for your business?

With over 85% of all consumers using search engines to find and purchase services and products, SEO is not only right for you, but essential.

It is, however, important to understand that SEO is not a quick fix and will require a long term commitment. With that in mind, you might think you’d be better off with PPC (pay-per-click) advertising; after all, ads can appear on page one of Google, however most people will ignore an ad and click on the organic results.

SEO doesn’t go away when you stop paying for ad space. If you rank for target keywords, you will reach more people and keep a constant flow of traffic visiting your site.

We aren’t saying you shouldn’t use PPC, in fact if they’re used together effectively, PPC and SEO are perfect companions that can significantly improve the visibility of your business, leading to more awareness and, ultimately, more revenue.

On-page and off-page SEO

Successful SEO techniques fall into one of two categories,on-page and off-page.

In simple terms, on-page SEO is focussed on creating a website that is quick, easy for users to navigate and provides good quality content relevant to what they’re looking for. This takes into account aspects such as keywords, page speed, page titles, mobile responsiveness etc.

Meanwhile, off-page SEO looks at the more complex tactics that can be used to promote your content via quality backlinks from respected and relevant third party websites with good domain authority. Your social media and Google Business Profile (previously known as Google My Business) also contribute to your off-page SEO efforts.

Content and copywriting for SEO

Since Google (and therefore other search engines) place such high value on quality content, it’s essential that the content that appears on your site is well researched and written with SEO in mind.

Whether it’s your landing pages, service pages or blog, good keyword research is the foundation on which the content will be formed.

Be careful though, simply throwing in the same keyword over and over again (known as keyword stuffing) will be punished by Google so it’s imperative that you use them sparingly and include more related words - words that go well with the keywords that were researched. When Google crawls your content, it will look for these related words to be sure of what the content is about.

Our copywriting team is highly skilled and experienced in delivering engaging content that Google loves as much as our clients do.
